10th March 2008
Plans are now well under way for the 2008 show and there are many new attractions planned.

17th & 18th May 2008For 2008 we have a new site, still within the beautiful grounds of the Belvoir Castle Estate, but a little deeper into the grounds in what could arguably be described as an even better setting than previous years.

The new site is much flatter, is flanked by a small lake on one side and dense woodland on the other. It also has the benefit of a tarmac road right through the middle and easy access to one of the main gates, which will be invaluable if the weather is wet.

There are several special anniversaries to be celebrated this year and just two of those we will be marking are the 75th Anniversary of ERF lorries and the 50th Anniversary of the Land Rover.

As a result there will be a special presentation of ERFs by REVS and we are hoping to have an example of a Land Rover for every year from 1958 to 2008.

Making a welcome return to Belvoir will be the annual gathering of Single Cylinder tractors, with several examples coming to us from overseas. The plan is to assemble around 80 examples to include Marshall, Lanz, Landini, Orsi, HSCS, McDonald, and the Lanz copies: KL (Australia), Ursus (Poland), Percheron (France), and Pampa (Argentina). Anyone wishing to display a single cylinder tractor at the event (or any other type of tractor) can obtain an entry form from Andy Watson on 01400 250840 or by email watson.andrew@virgin.net

A special gathering of International Harvester machinery is also planned, including tractors, implements, combine harvesters and stationary engines.

For the first time at Belvoir Castle, we will also be staging demonstration ploughing, using tractors, steam engines, and possibly heavy horses.

Montage of events in the 2008 showThere will also be a wide variety of tractor clubs, including David Brown and Allis Chalmers, and traders selling tractor spares. A dynamometer will also test the power output of tractors and there will be a road run at Saturday tea-time.

Steam as always takes centre stage, and section steward Paul Worbey is lining up one or two surprises. It is hoped to have a ploughing engine that once worked on the Belvoir Estate. Further details of engines attending will be added to this web site as and when their attendance is confirmed.

One engine that will definitely be at the show is the famous 1920 Fowler showman’s engine No. 15653 Renown, owned by the Howard Bros from Wirksworth in Derbyshire. They will also be presenting their 1886 Savage three-abreast steam powered gallopers, one of many traditional attractions that will be found in the fairground.

Those who appreciate the magnificent sound of the fairground organ, will welcome the  rare appearance (anywhere) of Bill Hunt’s fabulous ‘Wonderland’ Organ.

The Road Rescue Recovery Association will again be presenting their colourful and impressive display of breakdown and recovery vehicles, including demonstrations in a separate arena.

The main arena will feature a busy programme of entertainment from 11.00am on both days, including a dancing JCB digger, the Backwood Birds of Prey, a heavy horse parade and the Belvoir Hunt hounds.

Vintage motorcycle, classic car and model tent sections have all reported record entries so far and other sections are filling up quickly.

See the ‘booking in’ section for a full list of section stewards and contact them directly if you are interested in exhibiting at this year’s show.
