Commercial Vehicle Section

Commercial vehicle section

2011 Report

Another superb show has been and gone at Belvoir Castle, with all the section putting on excellent displays it was hard to know where to start.

ERF SeriesA major part of Belvoir Castle now for many years has been the commercial line-up, with REVS (Register of ERF Vehicles Society) achieving an award winning status, this was led by section steward Jill Sardeson (and her band of  merry men). Among the commercials present was Ellis's ERF KV which won best in show, Ellis's also attended with their ERF LV (pictured) and Foden FG eight-wheeler. Many other commercials also entered including, what is believed to be unique, Leyland, which had previously been used to evaluate brakes.  Alongside the classic commercials were the modern classics such as the ERF C-series also seen here.

As always the Tractor section was very much out in force with many, many tractor on show, the cars also showed a great deal of variety. Many makes and models attended, from the veteran to the modern classics.  A rare Martin Markham vehicle also made an appearance.
Stationary engines were plentiful and very neatly displayed, this was also applicable to the neighbouring miniature steam engines, which could be seen travelling around the site all weekend. The whole event was alive.

The full size steam section created a grand sight, especially when powering the fairground at night with the organs playing. Nostalgia at its best, this was not only a  steam fair, but a show for all with every aspect being covered, including a rare breeds display. However most other shows have a long way to go to beat the trade stalls present at Belvoir Castle.
Another highlight of the show was the Road Rescue Recovery operators and their displays, which educated many members of the public as to  how a vehicle is rescued. Some also had vintage and classic recovery vehicles on show to illustrate what had once been used compared to today's machinery.
One aspect which also had a large turnout this year was the model tent with many stunning models, with a large proportion of the models being of circus or fairground origin and of very high detail.
The Commercial CrewBig power, big crowds, it's tractor pulling; many vehicles  (not just tractors) took part; lorries and vans (suitably modified) took part as well. At any time of the show people could always be found watching this interesting sport taking place.
Another great show, with thanks must going to all section stewards and organisers.

A big thank you must also go out to all exhibitors and traders for making the journey to the  show (some of the tractor pullers were from the north of Scotland) and for making the show the success it undoubtedly it was.

Richard.
